'Tropical Banana Wildlife Beach, Costa Rica', 35.5 x 35.5 inches acrylic on canvas. John Dyer Painting of the Caribbean Rainforest.
NB: Previously exhibited in Spirit of the Harvest at the Eden Project. Now sold, and replaced with a new painting on display at Eden.
‘Tropical Banana Wildlife Beach, Costa Rica’ is a vibrant new painting inspired by John Dyer’s expedition with Bioversity International to explore smallholder banana farming on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica. Drawing on the sketches, studies, paintings and memories he made in the field, Dyer has created a major canvas that celebrates the region’s extraordinary biodiversity and colour.
Banana groves frame the scene, alive with wildlife — a sloth resting in the foliage, howler monkeys leaping through the canopy, and a toucan perched high above. Hummingbirds dart between blossoms in search of nectar, while tropical flowers ignite the composition with flashes of scarlet and gold. Beyond the grove, the white sands and turquoise waters evoke the warmth and rhythm of the Caribbean.
With expressive brushwork and a radiant palette, Dyer transforms the harvest landscape into a joyous celebration of the interconnection between farming, rainforest and wildlife. This significant new painting unites the artist’s first-hand experience of Costa Rica with the energy of his studio practice, offering collectors a richly detailed and meaningful addition to their contemporary art collection.
